Justice Reform Monitoring in Armenia – JUREMONIA

Project Description
In order to strengthen the role of civil society in Armenia in promoting human rights and judicial reform and become an effective force, the action via its overall objective aims to achieve that CSOs are empowered to meaningfully engage in the Justice sector reforms (incl. police and criminal justice system) in Armenia as effective, trusted and sustainable independent actors, to create a more accountable, transparent and international human rights-compliant justice system in Armenia. This requires increasing the capacity of CSOs in evidence and rights-based monitoring, reporting, and advocacy of implementation of justice sector reforms (SO1), strengthening the role of civil society in providing policy proposals and concrete recommendations and action plans for implementation of reforms (SO2), and increasing lasting public awareness and debate about justice reform processes, stimulating participation of citizens and media in monitoring efforts and formulating informed public demand as well as increase trust in the institutions to deliver justice to citizens (SO3).
Specific Objective
Overall objective: Empower CSO’s to meaningfully engage in the Justice sector reforms (incl. police and criminal justice system) in Armenia as effective, trusted and sustainable independent actors, in order to create a more accountable, transparent and international human rights-compliant justice system in Armenia.
1. Specific Objective 1: Increasing capacity of CSOs in evidence and rights-based monitoring, reporting and advocacy of implementation of justice sector reforms.
2. Specific Objective 2: Strengthening the role of civil society in providing policy proposals and concrete recommendations and action plans for the implementation of reforms.
3. Specific Objective 3:Increasing lasting public awareness and debate about justice reform processes, stimulating the participation of citizens and media in monitoring efforts and formulating informed public demand as well as increase trust in the institutions to deliver justice to citizens.
Expected Results
Overall objective: By the end of the project, at least 10 CSOs will be structurally engaged in monitoring national and international obligations towards the reformation of the Armenia’s Justice Sector.

1. SO 1: By the end of the Project At least 4 annual and periodic alternative reports per each sector of Justice Reforms is published, provided to the respective Authority and discussed with the involved SCOs.
2. SO 2: By the end of project approximately 30 representatives of NGOs are engaged in capacity building activities and advocacy activities
3. SO 3: By the end of the project (a) approximately 150 participants attend events; (b) reported increase of at least 1 level on Justice Sector engagement
