“We can turn Armenia into a hub for sustainable energy innovation,” EU Ambassador tells #EU4Energy roundtable in Yerevan
On 12 May, the Council of European Energy Regulators (CEER), as part of the EU4Energy Phase III project on promoting clean energy transition and connectivity in the Eastern Partnership countries, organised a high-level electricity market roundtable.
The meeting was organised in cooperation with the Public Services Regulatory Commission of Armenia and with the participation of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure. The event brought together representatives of Armenian institutions, the Delegation of the European Union to Armenia, European regulatory authorities, EU experts and key electricity sector stakeholders to discuss the ongoing development of Armenia’s electricity sector and the priorities of the EU4Energy Phase III programme.
The roundtable served as a platform for strategic dialogue on Armenia’s electricity market reforms, supporting closer alignment with EU principles under the Connectivity Agenda and covering the importance of regional connectivity for energy security, the integration of renewable energies and system efficiency. Discussions focused on electricity market liberalisation, development of secondary legislation under the Energy Law, strengthening regulatory practices and improving the investment climate in the sector.
The meeting also facilitated exchange between Armenian institutions, European regulators and international partners, promoting knowledge sharing and peer-to-peer cooperation in support of Armenia’s clean energy transition.
Vassilis Maragos, Ambassador of the European Union to Armenia, noted that the EU-Armenia Connectivity Partnership was recently signed at the first EU-Armenia summit, and highlighted the importance of cooperation in the energy sector.
“This project isn’t just about kilowatt-hours or grid codes – it’s about people, prosperity, and a planet-safe future. By working together, we can turn Armenia and the region into a hub for sustainable energy innovation,” Maragos said.
The EU4Energy Phase III is funded by the European Union with a total budget of €6 million and is implemented by the CEER. The project aims to contribute to the accelerated transition to interconnected, secure, sustainable, and low-emission energy systems in the Eastern Partnership Countries.
