Council extended the mandate of the EU civilian mission for two years

The Council of the European Union extended the mandate of the European Union Mission in Armenia (EUMA) for a further two years, until 19 February 2027. 

The Council decided to allocate over €44 million to EUMA for the period from 20 February 2025 until 19 February 2027.

EUMA was launched by decision of the Council on 20 February 2023, when it also started its operational activities. The mission is tasked with observing and reporting on the situation on the ground, contributing to human security in conflict-affected areas and supporting confidence building between Armenia and Azerbaijan, where possible.

EU will finance three new projects to address the needs of refugees

On 23 January, the European Union announced three new projects implemented by civil society organizations to address the needs of refugees. These initiatives based on the Nexus approach focus on socio-economic integration by creating economic opportunities, enhancing access to social services, and protecting human rights.

Since September 2023, the EU has mobilized over €67 million for refugee support. This includes €18 million in immediate humanitarian aid through DG ECHO, €40 million in budget support to the Government of Armenia, and €8.8 million allocated to civil society organizations.


The work continues under the visa liberalisation dialogue

Senior Armenian and European officials continue working under visa liberalisation dialogue. A productive discussion took place on next operational steps and needed reforms in Armenian with EU’s support.


EUR 11.5 million has been disbursed to the Armenian government within the “EU support to education in Armenia” grant budget support programme

In addition to previously transferred EUR 6,5 million, a total amount of EUR 11.5 million has been disbursed to the Armenian government within the “EU support to education in Armenia” grant budget support programme to facilitate implementation of Armenian education strategy (Total budget EUR 32 mln, including EUR 2.7 mln for technical assistance).

This transfer marks good progress in construction/renovation work that started in 7 schools of the Kapan and Goris regions; Introduction of new system for school principals appointment; Piloting multi-age classes in all schools of Syunik marz; Procurement for STEM labs in Ararat, Kotayk and Gegharkunik; Training of STEM teachers; Introduction of professional orientation clubs in schools; Promotion of projects in green economy and climate change and Introduction of new learning outcomes assessment system.


The European Union paid a €1.5 million grant to the Armenian Government

Under the “State and Resilience Building Contract for the Republic of Armenia” budget support programme, the European Union paid a €1.5 million grant to the Armenian Government in addition to €13.5 million disbursed in September.

This budget support programme is to support the Government of Armenia in addressing the short-and medium-term needs of Karabakh Armenians, as well as enabling their long-term socio-economic integration ensuring inclusion in the Armenian education, social protection and healthcare systems and integration into the labour market.


Young European Ambassadors Celebrate Their 8th Anniversary

EU Ambassador Vassilis Maragos delivered a welcome speech at the event marking the 8th anniversary of the Young European Ambassadors (YEAs) initiative. Joined by EU Member State Ambassadors, distinguished guests, and current and alumni YEAs, the panel discussion provided a platform to reflect on the network’s journey, share inspiring experiences, celebrate successes, and discuss challenges and future visions.


EU Ambassador to Armenia Vassilis Maragos visited Syunik

EU Ambassador to Armenia Vassilis Maragos visited several initiatives supported by the EU in Syunik and implemented by local civil society organisations such as the Winnet Goris Development Foundation, the Partnership Arch CSO, Impact Hub Syunik. Ambassador Maragos also met with refugees, highlighting the opportunities that are made available with EU support.


EIB and Ameriabank joined forces to provide €105 million loan to support small businesses

The European Investment Bank (EIB Global) has made its first ever agreement with Ameriabank. The EIB will provide the bank with €105 million in financing — its largest direct loan to a bank in the South Caucasus region. The aim of the operation is to finance investments in micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) and mid-caps in Armenia, with the aim of supporting their growth, competitiveness and adoption of greener and more sustainable practices.

The EU-funded Support for Health Resilience in the Eastern Partnership Programme was officially launched

On 26 February, the EU-funded Support for Health Resilience in the Eastern Partnership Programme, implemented by the World Health Organization, was officially launched and aims to strengthen Armenia’s health resilience by addressing critical workforce challenges and expanding access to mental health support.

“Investing in health today means building a stronger, more inclusive, and resilient healthcare system for the future. Through our partnership with WHO, we are committed to strengthening Armenia’s healthcare system – working together to make quality healthcare a reality for all in Armenia,” mentioned Vassilis Maragos, EU Ambassador to Armenia.


The EU4Impact has achieved significant results

The EU4Impact program has concluded, and it has achieved significant results: 117 businesses established, 13 by individuals displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh, over 300 people trained, and a new crowdfunding platform created.
