Youth of Lake Sevan share their vision for 2050 at COP17 Green Zone

On October 19, young voices from the communities surrounding Lake Sevan took center stage at the COP17 Green Zone, presenting a powerful collective vision of what they hope their beloved lake will look like in the year 2050.
Over the past several weeks, 142 young people aged 13–16 from Sevan, Gavar, Martuni, Vardenis, and Chambarak participated in a series of environmental awareness activities and art competitions. Using canvas, color, and imagination, the participants expressed what Lake Sevan means to them and how they envision its future.

Out of the many artworks created, 50 exceptional pieces were selected and brought to COP17. The exhibition provided youth from the Lake Sevan region with a global, creative platform to share their ideas, hopes, and environmental perspectives with an international audience.
During a dedicated ceremony at the Green Zone, the 50 selected artworks were presented to COP17 visitors. In a moving highlight, the young artists behind the top three winning works took the stage to share the inspiration and stories behind their paintings.
The young visionaries were officially recognized and awarded by Vassilis Maragos, Ambassador of the European Union to Armenia and Natia Natsvlishvili, UNDP Resident Representative in Armenia. Both leaders joined the young participants in celebrating their creativity, artistic expression, and proactive commitment to the sustainable future of Lake Sevan.
This youth initiative was implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) under the EU-funded project, EU4BiodiversityinSevan: Enhancing Lake Sevan Ecosystem Restoration.
