EU Supports official opening of TUMO Center for Creative Technologies main building in Kapan

On 2 March, EU Ambassador Vassilis Maragos joined the Simonian Educational Foundation and the Municipality of Kapan to celebrate the opening of the landmark TUMO Kapan center—an innovative hub for education, technology, and creativity for youth in Kapan and beyond.
TUMO Kapan exemplifies the European Union’s commitment to innovation and supporting regional development in Armenia. This center will not only equip young people with the skills to thrive locally but will also contribute to the sustainable economic development and resilience of the Syunik region. Our partnership with TUMO is a key part of the EU’s broader mission to invest in human capital, strengthen local economies, and prepare the next generation of innovators and entrepreneurs who will shape the future of Armenia.
TUMO Kapan is a flagship project within the Resilient Syunik Team Europe Initiative which is a joint undertaking of the EU, the European Investment Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Austria, Czechia, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland Sweden and Switzerland, with a common goal to promote sustainable socio-economic development of Syunik.
The EU Delegation launched its new initiative, the Youth Advisory Council

The EU Delegation launched its new initiative, the Youth Advisory Council (YAC), with an event that brought together young people from across Armenia, youth workers, and government representatives. The event introduced the YAC initiative, its goals, activities, and the process behind its establishment. The initiative is implemented within the EU project “Support in Cultural and Youth Activities” and is supported through a contract with the Goethe-Zentrum Yerevan.
Ms Meglena Kuneva visited the EU Delegation to Armenia

Ms Meglena Kuneva, former EU Commissioner and Deputy Prime Minister of Bulgaria, currently a lecturer at the European External Action Service’s Diplomatic Academy, visited the EU Delegation to Armenia, engaging in discussions with Young European Ambassadors. The meeting focused on leadership, addressing challenges, and exploring new opportunities for youth in the region. Known for her extensive experience in European politics, Ms Kuneva shared valuable insights, motivating the young ambassadors to take an active role in shaping the future.
The second working meeting of the CEPA Communication Hub

Progress in Awareness Raising Process on the Justice and Anti-Corruption Reforms

The fifth meeting of the EU-Armenia Strategic Policy Dialogue marked progress in delivering on reforms in the Justice and Anti-corruption Sectors including successful promotion of arbitration and mediation measures, implementation of integrity checks for prosecutors and investigators and increased public awareness of justice and anti-corruption reforms. Continued efforts are needed to ensure consistent and transparent reforms that are both systemic and sustainable.
EU and Partners Hosted Earth Day 2025 Plogging Event in Hrazdan Gorge

Europe Day 2025 celebrated in Armenia

In May, Armenia celebrated Europe Day 2025 under the theme “EU–Armenia: Cultural Bridge.”
Events in Gyumri, Gavar, and Yerevan brought together youth, communities, and officials to mark 33 years of partnership through cultural activities, interactive games, and regional outreach.
On 10 May, Yerevan’s Freedom Square became a vibrant meeting point, featuring EU-funded projects, live music, and embassy booths. The highlight was the theatrical performance “This is Europe”, a thought-provoking artistic journey exploring identity and shared values, strengthening the cultural bond between the EU and Armenia.
Director-General Gert Jan Koopman visits Armenia

The delegation led by Mr Gert Jan Koopman, Director-General of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR) visited Armenia to discuss a range of issues with Armenian government on strengthening of EU-Armenia relations, Resilience and Growth Plan and regional connectivity.
EU supports Armenia’s green transition

On 15 May, EU Ambassador Vassilis Maragos took part in the Sustainable Development in Armenia conference, organised by the European Business Association, discussing Armenia’s path toward COP30 in Brazil and its role as host of COP17 on Biodiversity in 2026. In his remarks, the Ambassador highlighted EU’s support for Armenia’s green transition and biodiversity protection. Biodiversity is not only about nature—it’s about resilience, health, and future prosperity. In recent years, the European Union has allocated over EUR 36 million to environment and water-related actions in Armenia. Together, we are building a greener and more sustainable future.

EU-GAIA Project Officially Concluded in Armenia

The EU Green Agriculture Initiative in Armenia (EU-GAIA), the largest EU-funded agriculture project in Armenia, officially wrapped up in Yerevan.
Co-financed by the EU and Austrian Development Cooperation and implemented by the Austrian Development Agency, the project boosted sustainable and organic farming, modernised agricultural education, and strengthened rural capacities. Despite major challenges, EU-GAIA delivered real impact across Armenia’s regions.

EU continues supporting socio-economic integration of Karabakh Armenians

On 16 May, EU Ambassador to Armenia Vassilis Maragos met with Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Khachatryan to discuss the Government’s ongoing efforts to support the socio-economic integration of Karabakh Armenians.
Since September 2023, the European Union has mobilised over EUR 67 million to address the needs of refugees, working in close partnership with the Government of Armenia. This includes a EUR 40 million State and Resilience Building Budget Support contract aimed at strengthening institutional response and promoting long-term integration of refugees.

Preserving the past, empowering the future – Opening Ceremony of the Armenian Restoration Paper Production Workshop was organised by Matenadaran. This workshop was partially funded by the EU, through its EU4Culture project, implemented by Goethe Institute.
The revival and continuation of traditional paper production techniques is not only about preserving the past, but also about promoting sustainability and craftsmanship in the present. These skills are vital for the long-term conservation of precious manuscripts. Workshops like this bring together experts, artists, and conservators from different backgrounds. They are laboratories of learning, where knowledge is exchanged, new ideas are born, and bridges are built between European and Armenian cultural sectors.

And its ripple effect is profound: when one social enterprise thrives, it lifts entire communities with it – through jobs, dignity, and lasting transformation. The VIA Fund, Armenia’s first impact investment vehicle for social enterprises, is here to stay and to develop. The Armenian ecosystem is stronger than ever with innovative entrepreneurs. And the EU stands with it as a committed partner in the journey ahead.
EEAS Secretary General Belen Martinez Carbonell visits Armenia

EEAS Secretary General Belen Martinez Carbonell visited Armenia to participate in Yerevan Dialogue 2025 international forum. During her visit, Secretary General stressed EU support for Armenia’s resilience and reforms. During her visit Carbonell met with Armenia’s Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan. Secretary General and EU Ambassador Vassilis Maragos also visited EUMA Headquarters.
New EU strategy for secure, prosperous and resilient Black Sea region

European Union is putting forward a new strategy for a stable and secure Black Sea region.
This Strategy aims to boost connections and growth, by linking Europe with the South Caucasus, Central Asia, and beyond. Amidst Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, the strategy will also reinforce the EU’s geopolitical role as a reliable actor in the Black Sea region.
The EU will forge closer cooperation with Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova, Georgia, Türkiye, Armenia and Azerbaijan and take forward regional cooperation on connectivity. A number of these countries have chosen to pursue the path towards EU accession or closer alignment with the EU.
