Overcoming stereotypes and preventing violence: programme phaze III has launched

05/11/2026

A few days ago, the third phase of the “EU4GenderEquality: Together against gender stereotypes and gender-based violence”  programme launched in Yerevan. The third phase aims to reduce gender-based discrimination, expand women’s economic opportunities and prevent gender-based violence through the transformation of discriminatory social norms.

As highlighted by the implementing partner in a recent Facebook post, the new phase will build on the results, lessons learned, and validated approaches from Phases I and II. Over the past six years, the programme has helped shift deeply rooted stereotypes, reaching millions of people across the region. In Armenia, key achievements include collaborating with faith leaders and establishing innovative Papa Clubs. By applying the impactful “In her Shoes” and “Voices Against Violence” methodologies, the programme has helped people see situations through women’s eyes, better recognize discrimination, and work together to prevent violence. The programme has also supported youth and local organizations, empowering them to become the main driving force for positive change within their communities.

Phase III places particular emphasis on sustainability and scalability through the institutionalisation of interventions, development of replicable tools and methodologies, and strengthening of national ownership. It also responds to emerging challenges by expanding work on care systems, digital transformation and AI, and by reinforcing resilience to backlash against gender equality through strategic communications, coalition-building and support to civil society.

The programme is funded by the European Union and implemented jointly by UN Women and UNFPA in four Eastern Partnership countries: Armenia, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.
