Culture at the crossroads of tradition, creativity and new opportunities | Video story

22/10/2026

Culture is not only a legacy of the past, but also a living process that continues to evolve through creative work, new ideas and collaboration. With the support of the European Union, initiatives in Armenia are helping preserve cultural heritage, develop the creative sectors and make the arts more accessible, creating new opportunities for artists and communities alike.

The Weaving Culture project brings together centuries-old Armenian carpet-weaving traditions and contemporary art, uniting master weavers displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh with artist Anna Boghiguian. Meanwhile, with support from a grant awarded through the Artbox Incubator under the EU-funded KATAPULT programme, Bebuk Puppet Theatre has brought its travelling theatre concept to life, taking theatrical performances and cultural experiences to children in communities across Armenia. The activities of the Teryan Cultural Centre demonstrate how traditional Armenian crafts can be preserved, passed on to new generations and showcased on international platforms. Among the centre’s achievements is receiving the Europa Nostra Award in 2024.

These initiatives show how culture can preserve identity, foster creativity, strengthen collaboration and open up new horizons for people and communities. With the support of the European Union, cultural heritage in Armenia is not only being preserved but also continuing to evolve, connecting traditions with new ideas and future opportunities.
