European Parliament voted in favour of Autonomous Trade Measures for Armenia
The EU Delegation to Armenia announced on 15 September in a Facebook post that 583 Members of the European Parliament voted in favour of Autonomous Trade Measures for Armenia.
The regulation will now move to the final approval and is expected to take effect soon, once the legislative process is completed.
“The potential benefits for Armenian businesses are significant,” the Delegation said in a post. “More than 300 groups of Armenian goods including preserves and juices, dried fruit and nuts, herbs and spices, and a wide range of industrial goods from textiles to footwear will enter the EU free of customs duties for two years — opening a market of 450 million consumers to Armenian producers.”
Trade facilitation measures for Armenia form part of a wide-ranging package of support measures from the EU, which includes the accelerated provision of financial assistance to stabilise Armenia’s economy, as well as practical support designed to help Armenian farmers, producers and exporters meet EU requirements and establish contacts with potential buyers.
