The power of communication in advancing youth employability

Have you ever thought that everything in our lives actually starts with communication? Whether in classrooms, workplaces, or our personal lives, the ability to communicate clearly, persuasively, and with empathy is central to building meaningful connections and bringing opportunities.  Not long ago, I found myself surrounded by exactly that kind of feeling at the Career Centre of Brusov State University in Yerevan. The room was filled with curiosity and ambition, as students explored new professional opportunities, each one taking small but meaningful steps toward their goals.  As a Young European Ambassador and the organiser of the Digitalising Erasmus Traineeship Application Support (DETAS) project session, which aims to enhance the relevance and outreach of Erasmus+ traineeships, this was a significant responsibility for me – I was there to communicate, to share, and to connect people with opportunities that can shape their future. At that very moment I felt the power of communication, and understood my role as a Young European Ambassador in bridging connections between people and opportunities.

But communication becomes truly successful when it involves the right people, which is why finding the right speakers was a deliberate choice. When I invited Maria, a Master’s student in viticulture and winemaking, I saw the students’ posture change. They weren’t looking at her as a guest speaker but more at a peer who had mastered European techniques in Portugal and brought that high-level expertise back to our local industry. This taught me that my role as a YEA is also to be a curator of credibility.

The most significant moment for me happened when Dani Bueno, a Spanish-Ecuadorian student currently interning in Armenia, started to speak. She shared her daily routine of teaching and building university collaborations. At that moment, her enthusiasm hit me with a new strength. Hearing her describe her professional life in my home country reminded me of the actual impact of these programmes. Her energy was a recharge for my own motivation. It validated why I find it meaningful to dedicate time on organising these initiatives. She said that, “one of the best outcomes of taking part in mobilities is the people who become connectors,” referencing my role in bringing the community together. 

This event changed my understanding  about the power of communication and leadership. I learned that my growth as a Young European Ambassador is directly tied to the growth I facilitate in others and helping my generation navigate the international traineeship opportunities with confidence. I left the university with a clear sense of understanding; being part of a strong communication network means more than exchanging ideas; it means creating spaces where opportunities become visible, where questions are welcomed, and where motivation can truly grow.
