Enhancing Policy Framework and Capacity for Effective Migration and Asylum Management in Armenia

Project Description
The project “Enhancing Policy Framework and Capacity for Effective Migration and Asylum Management in Armenia” is jointly implemented by International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) in cooperation with the Migration and Citizenship Service of Ministry of Internal Affairs. The two- and a half- year project is funded by the European Union (EU) and aims to enhance migration and asylum governance in Armenia, in line with reforms implemented in 2018 to enhance human rights in the country. It is based on the legislative, regulatory and policy reforms initiated by Government of Armenia.
The new Concept of Migration and Asylum Governance in Armenia focuses on a rights-based approach to managing migration and on protecting refugees and asylum seekers and creating evidence-driven gender sensitive policies across government agencies. With Armenia’s shift from primarily an emigration country to a growing destination country for migrants, this action is crucial to developing secure, inclusive, and well-governed migration practices aligned with international standards. The project also aims to support the implementation of the commitment of Armenia under the EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
