Expanding horizons for Armenian businesses in the EU market

On 10 October, the European Union’s Autonomous Trade Measures officially came into effect, opening a vital pathway for international commerce. Under this new framework, customs duties have been removed on approximately 80% of Armenian exports entering the EU for a two-year period, presenting an unprecedented opportunity for local producers to enter one of the world’s largest consumer markets.
To bridge the gap between policy and practice, the EU Delegation gathered with roughly 50 Armenian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) on 16 October. The dedicated informational session focused on actionable strategies for local companies to maximise these tariff reductions and scale their operations within the EU. This collaborative event was organised by BDO Armenia, Converse Bank, and the EBRD Advice for Small Businesses programme – an EU-funded initiative specifically tailored to assist local enterprises in upgrading their operations to meet rigorous EU market standards.
Beyond tariff elimination, this initiative forms part of a broader, comprehensive commitment by the European Union to strengthen Armenia’s export ecosystem. Local businesses are currently benefiting from hands-on business advisory services, specialised training programmes, participation in international trade fairs, and direct matchmaking with prospective European buyers.
Looking ahead, these measures serve as a foundational pillar for Armenia’s economic diversification and sustainable growth. By encouraging local SMEs to align with global production standards, enhance product quality, and establish resilient cross-border supply chains, the initiative aims to build long-term economic resilience.
As additional support programmes and partnership channels continue to rollout, the future of EU-Armenia trade holds immense potential—stay tuned to the EU Delegation’s updates on new opportunities unfold.
