EU4Culture II launches active phase in Armenia, highlighting deepening Armenia–EU cultural ties

30/09/2026

On 29 September, the European Union reaffirmed its strong commitment to Armenia’s cultural landscape with the official launch of the active implementation phase of EU4Culture II. Held at the iconic Komitas Museum in Yerevan, the networking and policy dialogue event – “Creative Ecosystems in Armenia: Unlocking Local Potential for Sustainable Development” – gathered key cultural organisations, policy experts, and institutional stakeholders to set a vision for local sustainable development.

Opening the launch, Vassilis Maragos, EU Ambassador to Armenia, emphasised the central place of culture in shaping identity, boosting social and economic life, and fundamentally deepening the EU – Armenia partnership.

The event also featured opening remarks from Zhanna Andreasyan, Armenia’s Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports – who outlined national cultural priorities and supportive regional environments – and Anatoli Beifert, Head of EU4Culture II at the Goethe-Institut Georgia.

A central focus of the dialogue was the tangible operational impact of EU funding across Armenian regions. Discussions highlighted key initiatives designed to build long-term, self-sustaining cultural hubs.

EU4Culture II – Sustainable Creative Ecosystems is a flagship action under the European Commission’s #CultureCompassEurope. Funded by the European Union and implemented by the Goethe-Institut, the initiative empowers cultural actors, strengthens regional economic resilience, and fosters a vibrant, interconnected creative sector throughout Armenia.
