COP17: EU4Clean Air in Armenia project highlights importance of connections between air pollution and public health

30/10/2026

On 29 October, the EU4Clean Air in Armenia project, funded by the European Union, brought the conversation on clean air, health and environmental sustainability to the COP17 Green Zone.

The 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP17) is taking place in Yerevan from 19 to 30 October.

“The session highlighted a simple but important message: air quality is not only an environmental issue, it is a public health, climate, biodiversity and sustainable development issue,” the EU Delegation to Armenia said in a Facebook post.

Experts from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the World Health Organisation (WHO) and Ministry of Environment of Armenia discussed air-quality management challenges and explored how stronger governance, modern monitoring systems, reliable data and enhanced institutional capacities could contribute to better decision-making and healthier, more resilient communities.

The discussion also highlighted the important connections between air pollution, public health, climate change, ecosystems and biodiversity, demonstrating why coordinated action is essential.
