24/10/2026

On 22 October, the ‘EU4Biodiversity in Sevan’ project was presented at the Armenian Pavilion during the COP17 biodiversity conference in Yerevan.

Supported by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in partnership with Armenia’s Ministry of Environment, the three-year project began in May 2026.

EU Ambassador to Armenia Vassilis Maragos, Armenian Deputy Minister of Environment Aram Meymaryan and UNDP Resident Representative Natia Natsvlishvili took part in the event and highlighted the importance of strengthening the foundations for the long-term restoration and sustainable management of Lake Sevan.

The ‘EU4BiodiversityinSevan: Enhancing Lake Sevan Ecosystem Restoration’ project aims to create favourable conditions for the effective restoration and sustainable management of Lake Sevan’s ecosystem by strengthening institutional capacities, improving restoration measures and introducing sustainable financing mechanisms. The project is part of the EU’s support for biodiversity protection in Armenia and will run until 2029.
