EU4Innovation East: Armenia looks to Poland and France to strengthen aerospace  cooperation

26/10/2026

From 5 to 10 October, an Armenian delegation of representatives from the aerospace industry, research institutions, academia and innovation organisations visited Warsaw and Toulouse to learn from European space-sector experience and identify opportunities for international collaboration. The visit was organised by EU4Innovation East, and focused on technology transfer, start-up development, research commercialisation, and building partnerships and collaborative projects with European industry and research organisations.

The delegation included representatives of the Armenian Innovation Foundation (AIF), the American University of Armenia (AUA), BAZOOMQ Space Research Lab, Geovibe, the Centre for Scientific Innovation & Education (CSIE), the Science and Technology Development Council, Geocosmos, the Enterprise Incubator Foundation (EIF) and the Gituzh Initiative. The delegates were joined by the EU4Innovation East Programme Director Julien Schmitt and Armenia Country Coordinator Nejdeh Hovanessian.

“Armenia has valuable research expertise and a growing space technology sector,” said Julien Schmitt, Programme Director, EU4Innovation East. “The visits provided an opportunity to learn from different European approaches, establish direct contacts and identify areas where joint work could bring tangible results.”

In Warsaw, on 5-6 October, the delegation held meetings with Creotech Instruments, the Łukasiewicz Research Network – Institute of Aviation, ICEYE, PIAP Space, the Polish Space Industry Association and SENER, which covered satellite manufacturing, Earth observation, space robotics, engineering and industry representation. The exchanges highlighted different approaches to building technical capabilities, supporting specialised companies and engaging with international markets.

The programme continued in Toulouse from 7 to 9 October. The delegates held discussions with Aerospace Valley and its DISTRICT acceleration programme, IRT Saint Exupéry, ANITI, U-Space, the University Space Center of Montpellier, Thales Alenia Space, Airbus Defence and Space Intelligence, Toulouse Tech Transfer and ISAE-SUPAERO. These discussions focused on satellite technologies, artificial intelligence, start-up acceleration, research commercialisation and aerospace education. There were also additional technical meetings with Kratos and EnduroSat to explore technological developments and potential areas for cooperation in the aerospace sector.

The visits identified more than ten potential cooperation opportunities, including collaboration for establishing an aerospace sector-focused start-up incubation programme in Armenia, collaboration for accelerating start-ups incubated in Armenia, academic collaborations, joint satellite development and mission management, collaboration with the Armenian ground station, facilitating tech transfer, etc. EU4Innovation East will help organisations find suitable European funding programmes, depending on eligibility, for the opportunities identified in the field.
