EU launches WARIE Project to advance AI research in Armenia, Georgia, and Moldova

On October 22 a new “Widening AI Research and Innovation for Excellence in the Eastern Partnership” (WARIE) project was launched. The WARIE project places the Eastern Partnership (EaP) region at the hub of AI research and innovation by strengthening scientific excellence, institutional capacity, and innovation performance in leading universities and research institutions from Armenia, Georgia, and Moldova, as well as integration into the European Research Area (ERA).
Submitted under the coordination of the Institute for Informatics and Automation Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia, it had secured funding following a highly competitive Horizon Europe call.
Speaking at the launch event, the EU Ambassador Vassilis Maragos said the project would help enhance the competitiveness of research institutions.
The project will bring together 13 research and higher education institutions from Armenia, Georgia, Moldova, Germany, France, Switzerland and Sweden, including Yerevan State University, Tbilisi State University and the Technical University of Moldova.
“With a budget of more than €4.2 million and a duration of four years, this project brings together 13 partner organisations,” Zhanna Andreasyan, Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia highlighted. “This project is one of the results of the consistent development of scientific and educational cooperation between Armenia and the European Union,” she said.
