EU Ambassador Vassilis Maragos highlights essential role of Think Tanks in shaping Armenia’s future

EU Ambassador to Armenia Vassilis Maragos joined policymakers and foreign policy experts on October 1–2, 2026, for a two-day workshop focused on strengthening Armenia’s strategic reforms and resilience.
Titled “A New Momentum for Armenia: Foreign Policy, Reforms and Resilience,” the workshop featured Ambassador Maragos as a key panelist discussing the nation’s foreign policy priorities for 2026–2030. Speaking on the critical relationship between research and governance, Maragos emphasized that effective governance relies heavily on external expertise.
“Think tanks are an essential part of policymaking – no administration can deliver on policy alone,” Maragos stressed during the event. “Meaningful interaction and dialogue are key.”
The conference brought together leading think tanks, high-level policymakers, and subject-matter experts to deliberate on pressing national issues. Key discussions centered on Armenia’s foreign policy diversification, regional connectivity, progress toward visa liberalisation with the EU, human rights, and public administration reform. Participants also addressed strategies for countering Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (FIMI) to safeguard democratic processes.
The workshop was held under the EU-funded project “Bridging Knowledge and Policy: Strengthening Armenian Think Tanks.” The initiative aims to deepen collaboration between independent research institutions and state decision-makers, reinforcing the European Union’s broader commitment to evidence-based policymaking and sustainable reform in Armenia.
