EU doors open for Armenian finfish industry: producers prepare to launch exports
A major trade milestone is taking shape for Armenia’s aquaculture sector. Following official European Union authorisation to export finfish and finfish products to the EU block, local producers are taking crucial step-by-step measures to turn trade access into real-world shipments.
On July 24, Armenian finfish producers gathered for an online awareness session designed to help businesses navigate the final practical steps of securing an EU export permit. The event was part of a broader capacity-building series providing companies with comprehensive insights into EU documentation, application protocols, verification procedures, and import standards.
The momentum behind Armenia’s fisheries expansion follows significant legislative, institutional, and operational milestones achieved in recent months, notably:
- Secured official EU export authorisation (March 2025) followed by formal Armenian government regulatory approval (July 2026).
- Completed a nationwide baseline evaluation confirming domestic facilities meet stringent European safety and hygiene criteria.
- Facilitated producer participation at Seafood Expo Global 2026 in Barcelona while launching individual business permit applications.
The effort is driven by a joint project implemented by the International Trade Centre (ITC) and funded by the European Union, working alongside Armenia’s Ministry of Economy and the Food Safety Inspection Body (FSIB). A central focus of the recent awareness session was registering local facilities with the European Union’s official trade platform, TRACES (Trade Control and Expert System).
Beyond immediate commercial gains, EU officials reaffirmed that this trade expansion underscores a deepening partnership between Armenia and the European Union, grounded in shared values, mutual respect, and collaborative economic development.
