The EU launches a new project to support key reforms in Armenia’s visa liberalisation

June 1, 2026

The EU has launched a new two-year project to support the Government of Armenia in advancing key reforms under the Action Plan on Visa Liberalisation (VLAP).

The VLAP reforms cover four key areas: document security; border, migration and asylum management; public order and security; and fundamental rights related to the freedom of movement.

The “Support to the visa liberalisation dialogue in Armenia in border management, document security and law enforcement reforms” project is being implemented by the Central Project Management Agency (CPVA), with the support of Lithuania’s Ministry of the Interior.

EU delivers €34 million in immediate support to Armenia

June 19, 2026

The European Commission has disbursed €34 million to Armenia to help mitigate the impact of Russia’s trade restrictions on the country’s private sector.

The financial support is the first tranche of a broader package announced by President Ursula von der Leyen, which includes trade facilitation and solidarity measures to strengthen Armenia’s economic resilience.

The EU aims to help Armenian businesses diversify their export markets and to create new opportunities in Europe, a market of 450 million consumers.

In June 2026, as part of this commitment, the EU and Latvia worked together to bring the entry of 10,000 Armenian flowers to the Latvian market. At a challenging time for Armenia, this provided practical support to Armenia’s floriculture sector.

The European Union will continue supporting trade and export opportunities for businesses in Armenia.

A new chapter has begun for Armenia’s finfish and finfish product producers

July 27, 2026

Armenian producers can now apply for authorisation to export finfish and finfish products to the EU, following the Government of Armenia’s approval of the relevant export procedure on 16 July. This builds on the EU’s March 2025 authorisation allowing Armenia to export these products to the European market.

With EU support, the International Trade Centre, has been working closely with the Ministry of Economy and the Food Safety Inspection Body (FSIB) to prepare the sector for exports to the EU.

A baseline assessment of the sector’s readiness has been carried out, while Armenian producers have participated in Seafood Expo Global 2026 in Barcelona, connecting with industry experts, European buyers and importers. Together, these efforts have helped establish the legislative, institutional and operational foundations needed to make exports from Armenia to the EU possible.

Registration in the European Union’s Trade Control and Expert System (TRACES) will open access not only to the markets of the EU’s 27 Member States, but also to a number of other countries that follow the system’s standards, including Moldova, Ukraine and Israel.

EU-supported social services reached more than 850 people across Syunik

June 29, 2026

The EU-funded “Partnership for Syunik: Enhanced Community-Based Social Services” project, implemented under the Resilient Syunik Team Europe Initiative, has come to an end.

With EU support, 12 civil society organisations, together with the municipalities of Sisian, Goris, Kapan and Meghri, piloted and delivered nine types of community-based social services across Syunik, directly supporting more than 850 beneficiaries.

The services included elderly care, child day-care, social taxi, rehabilitation and reintegration services, demonstrating how locally driven efforts and strong partnerships can make social services more accessible, inclusive and sustainable.

The European Union will continue to support systemic reforms in Armenia’s social protection sector, both at the national level and within communities.

New youth space inaugurated in Khoy with EU support

June 29, 2026

EU Ambassador to Armenia Vassilis Maragos and Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Zhanna Andreasyan attended the inauguration of the Khoy Youth Space.

Six youth spaces have been established in Armenia’s Armavir, Shirak, Lori, Syunik, Gegharkunik and Tavush regions within the “Youth in Action: Promoting Youth Empowerment and Leadership in Armenia” project, co-funded by the European Union and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation.

The youth spaces will serve as “laboratories of democracy”, where young people can develop their critical thinking, dialogue skills, tolerance and civic responsibility, values that contribute to a strong and resilient Armenia.

They will also provide access to non-formal education, volunteering opportunities, civic engagement initiatives, leadership development programmes and community-based initiatives.

The operation of all six youth spaces is secured through Memorandums of Understanding signed with the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, reflecting a shared commitment to ensuring the continuity of youth services beyond the project period.
