Armenia launches EU-backed registry to accelerate climate action

21/05/2026

Armenia is significantly strengthening its climate action framework with the official launch of a new Greenhouse Gas Emissions Registry and Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) platform. Spearheaded by the Ministry of Environment on May 14, this digital initiative aims to dramatically improve emissions tracking, ensuring the country stays on course to meet its Paris Agreement commitments.

The new MRV platform was developed under the EU4ClimateResilience (ProGress) project. By providing data-driven, evidence-based tracking, the platform serves as a foundational tool for Armenia’s ambitious goal: reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 44% by 2035 as part of its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC 3.0) framework.

Following the launch, the Ministry hosted a roundtable discussion with key international development partners, including the EU Delegation to Armenia, NDC Partnership, UNDP, and GIZ. The session focused on mapping out Armenia’s immediate technical and financial needs, ensuring all international efforts are closely aligned to accelerate the country’s climate goals.

By building a verifiable data foundation, Armenia is transitioning from climate pledges to measurable, accountable climate action, paving the way for a more resilient and sustainable economy.

About the project:

The EU4ClimateResilience project is a regional initiative designed to foster green transitions, decarbonization, energy security, and climate adaptation across Eastern Partnership (EaP) countries. The project is co-funded by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety, and Consumer Protection (BMUV), and jointly executed by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
