The European Union has congratulated the citizens of the Republic of Armenia \u201con exercising their sovereign democratic right to vote in parliamentary elections<\/em>\u201d, which took place on 7 June, and commended \u201cthe high level of civic participation<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n

According to the Central Electoral Commission of Armenia, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan\u2019s Civil Contract party won the parliamentary elections, garnering 49.81% of the vote.<\/p>\n

In a statement released on behalf of the EU, High Representative Kaja Kallas quotes the preliminary findings and conclusions of the OSCE\/ODIHR election observation mission. The conclusions say that \u201cthe campaign was highly polarised<\/em>\u201d, but the elections were managed \u201cin an inclusive manner, offered clear political alternatives, and were well organised, under a sound legal framework\u201d<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe electoral campaign and the voting took place in a context of unprecedented interference, pressure and persistent hybrid attacks from Russia, including via economic coercion measures that have sought to undermine the democratic process and incite polarisation,\u201d <\/em>Kaja Kallas said. \u201cNevertheless, the elections reflect Armenia\u2019s democratic resilience and progress on its reform path. They also underscored the Armenian people\u2019s commitment to European values, peaceful political participation, and the pursuit of a stable, secure and prosperous future.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

The EU also called on all political actors to respect the outcome of the vote, democratic procedures and make use of legal mechanisms to address any electoral complaints.<\/p>\n

HRVP Kallas also said that the EU was looking forward to continuing its close cooperation with the future government and parliament of Armenia.<\/p>\n
