The most promising solutions developed during the 2026 Hackathon will be nominated for the<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/eapcivilsociety.eu\/hackathons\/civil-society-digitalisation-award\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EaP Civic Tech Award<\/a>, which provides EU financial and expert support for further development and launch. The expected average amount of support per winner is EUR 10,000; up to EUR 12,000 may be awarded on an exceptional basis.<\/p>\n<p>The 2026 EaP Civic Tech Hackathon will be held in a hybrid format, combining an online incubation phase on 19 March \u2013 3 April with an in-person Hackathon event in Chisinau, Moldova, on 17-19 April. The working language of the Hackathon is English.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The\u00a0registration\u00a0for our 2026 EaP Civic Tech Hackathon is already open!<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ict.eapcivilsociety.eu\/en\"><strong>Apply by 2 March 2026<\/strong><\/a>!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h3><strong>Who can apply?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Applications are accepted only from teams<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>with an idea of a civic tech solution and a minimum set of technical skills to prototype it<strong>.<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>Unlike some previous editions,<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>individual applications are not eligible<\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span>for the 2026 Hackathon.<\/p>\n<p>Each team must include, as a minimum:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>One civil society representative from an EaP country<\/strong>, who is the author of the idea and will act as the team leader; and<\/li>\n<li><strong>At least two technical experts<\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span>(developers, designers, data experts, etc.), including at least one developer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There is no upper limit on the number of team members. However, the organisers will cover travel and accommodation costs for<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>up to three team members per team<\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span>to participate in the offline Hackathon in Chisinau; additional members may contribute remotely. Technical experts from<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>EU Member States<\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span>may participate as members of Hackathon teams.<\/p>\n<p>Please check the<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/eapcivilsociety.eu\/download\/20164\/\">Hackathon Guidelines<\/a><\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span>for eligibility criteria.<\/p>\n<h3><span>What civic tech solution can be proposed for the Hackathon?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Proposed civic tech solutions should address<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>one or more<\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span>of the following challenges:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Counteracting online<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>disinformation and misinformation<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Tackling<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>societal polarisation<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Strengthening<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>civil society resilience<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Supporting<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs) and asylum-seekers<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>On an indicative basis civic tech solutions proposed for the 2026 EaP Civic Tech Hackathon may include solutions that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>enable citizens identify and\/or act against online misinformation &amp; disinformation;<\/li>\n<li>help citizens meaningfully engage in policy- and decision-making, including at the community level, by enabling access to or simplifying their digital participation, feedback and dialogue;<\/li>\n<li>foster collaboration between communities;<\/li>\n<li>improve CSOs\u2019 security and adaptability and\/or organisational transparency by enhancing their communication, data protection, fundraising and management tools;<\/li>\n<li>support CSOs in providing services to citizens;<\/li>\n<li>capacitate communities and organisations to engage and motivate citizens, stakeholders and allies for a specific development need or cause.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Solutions should respond to concrete needs of communities in the EaP region or of EaP citizens living abroad and demonstrate clear user\u2013system interaction (for example through web platforms, mobile applications, interactive maps, plugins or similar tools). The programme includes pitching sessions, individual meetings with the Hackathon mentors and mentors-led webinars and will help the teams refine their ideas and prepare for the Hackathon. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On 17-19 April 2026 the teams will meet in-person with the Hackathon mentors and organisers in Chisinau, Moldova. There they will work on the prototypes of their civic tech solutions, with the mentors\u2019 support and advice. On the final day, the teams will present their prototypes to peers, mentors and organisers, and together will evaluate the presented solution.<\/p>\n<p>Up to<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>five top-scoring teams<\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span>will be invited to apply for the EaP Civic Tech Award to get the EU support to develop and launch their digital solutions. The programme includes pitching sessions, individual meetings with the Hackathon mentors and mentors-led webinars and will help the teams refine their ideas and prepare for the Hackathon. \\u00a0<\\\/p>\\n\n\n<p>On 17-19 April 2026 the teams will meet in-person with the Hackathon mentors and organisers in Chisinau, Moldova. There they will work on the prototypes of their civic tech solutions, with the mentors\\u2019 support and advice. On the final day, the teams will present their prototypes to peers, mentors and organisers, and together will evaluate the presented solution.<\\\/p>\\n\n\n<p>Up to<span>\\u00a0<\\\/span><strong>five top-scoring teams<\\\/strong><span>\\u00a0<\\\/span>will be invited to apply for the EaP Civic Tech Award to get the EU support to develop and launch their digital solutions.
